America in Prophecy
TARSHISH - EZEKIEL 38:13:
"Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee [the invaders of Israel lead by Gog], Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?" (Ezekiel 38:13)
"Sheba, and Dedan" were both great-grandsons of Noah's son Ham thuough Raamah the son of Cush (Genesis 10:5-7). The Sabeans or Sheba was a nation in southern Arabia and Dedan is likewise in southern Arabia. In Ezekiel 38:13 "Sheba, and Dedan" signifies the area of the Arabian Peninsula, Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf states which are primarially economic and military allies of the United States.
Tarshish was the great-grandson of Noah and the son of Javan, one of the 7 sons of Japheth. Javan corresponds to Greece and Tarshish corresponds to the Phoenicians.
The Phoenicians established the city of Carthage on Africa's northern coast in what is now Tunisia, and it was these Carthaginians who from there colonized Spain in 654 BC, and began to explored the Atlantic coastline from western Africa to Britain. The area of Tartessus just outside Straits of Hercules (now Gibraltar) and to the north is associated with Tarshish. This area is located in the Guadalquivir Valley in southwestern Spain, where the Phoenicians founded colonies to capitalize on the wealth of minerals found there.
Phoenicia was located at the uttermost eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea occupying the area of modern Lebanon
The Richards Topical Encyclopaedia states, "Phoenician traders sailed out through the straits of Gibraltar and discovered the English tin mines, long before the Egyptians or the Babylonians even knew that there was such a place as Britain. England comes into the light of history much earlier than many of the modern European countries, such as Germany. This is because the British had valuable tin mines. Phoenician traders, used to visit England to get tin, many centuries before Christ. They tried to keep the location of the tin mines a great secret in order that no other nation should discover the deposits of the useful and costly metal. But other people did find out about the island, and a Greek geographer mentioned it in his writings as early as BC 350."
Archaeological evidence proves that they possessed sailing capabilities far beyond what was originally known. An inscription discovered in 1780 on a cliff above Mount Hope Bay in Bristol, Rhode Island, which was written in Tartessian Punic, reads: "Voyagers from Tarshish this stone proclaims." It is believed that this inscription was made about 533 BC. Howard University's Deptartment of Archaeology has found five other areas in the United States where Tarshish had colonies 2500 years ago.
Ezekiel 27:13 indicates that Tarshish was a source of tin, and the word "Britain" means "land of tin." It is also interesting that the symbol of Great Britin is the Lion.
It is certain that the descendants of Tarshish migrated to the areas which became Spain and Great Britain. Both Spain and England eventually became major naval powers, likely due to their very early contact with the sea going Phoenicians.
An analysis of these facts indicate that Tarshish may refer to all of western Europe, perhaps the entire modern European Union, but certinly to England and "the young lions thereof." We contend, therefore, that "all the young lions of Ezekel 38:13 "refer to the spin-off nations from the British Empire, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
